My Story

I think it’s really important when choosing a counsellor to find someone you feel comfortable and safe with; you may be telling me things you have never told anyone else before. Starting counselling can feel like a really vulnerable time when sharing difficult feelings and experiences. I am here to make you feel safe and heard and to validate you; your thoughts, feelings, experiences and responses. Maybe you are feeling lost, stuck or overwhelmed; I can help you work through whatever you are struggling with.

Before I became a counsellor I worked in sport and leisure and health and social care roles. I have experience in working on charity helplines supporting individuals, families and professionals. Through these helpline roles I have experience in supporting those effected by brain injury and also modern slavery and human trafficking. I completed my counselling placement with ‘Quetzal’ in Leicester; supporting female survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I have experience of volunteering with the mental health text service ‘Shout’'. When I am not working  I enjoy family time, reading, being in nature and films/tv.

I know how hard it can be to start counselling; I have been there too! It is my own experience of having counselling that inspired me to train as a counsellor and that has motivated me to support others in a therapeutic environment. Counselling helped me to navigate bereavement/loss, anxiety and low self-worth amongst many other things. I know how difficult it can be to keep trying to ‘cope’ and ‘manage’ when you are struggling and overwhelmed and when you have other responsibilities such as a job and family – it can be really exhausting! Counselling is a unique experience and journey that gave me hope in a time when I felt lost and overwhelmed. Being able to ‘offload’ and feel ‘heard’ is truly therapeutic and having someone to guide you along the way can help you feel safe when you are feeling vulnerable.

In your counselling journey with me I will provide you a safe and non-judgemental space to feel heard. We will work together to create some space within you where you can stop feeling stuck and start to grow, develop and flourish! I chose the name ‘Room for Hope’ based on my own experience of giving and receiving counselling; I believe having hope is powerful and it can keep you going, sometimes we are not sure if it is there but inside you there is ‘Room for Hope’ and I can help you find it again.  I look forward to supporting you in your own counselling journey.

Take care

Nicki
